The richly characterful Portuguese white from the Alentejo is a feast of fun, with juicy Aussie Chardonnay and peppery spicy Grüner Veltliner completing a fanfare of fine flavours. Then there’s our famous partner for stir-fried prawns: a French ‘Mauzac-Savignon Blanc’ blend – these two grapes really spark when they’re together. For a really prestigious treat our award winners – Campanula Pinot Grigio (minerally and deliciously aromatic), Primitivo from Sicily, and Argentina’s blend of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Shiraz (‘Waxed Bat’) – are hard to beat. There are fine dinner-party reds too: a hearty Australian Shiraz, fashionable cool-climate Carmenère from Chile, ultra-chic Spanish Priorat, and a hand-crafted Cabernet beloved by top UK critic Jancis Robinson MW.
