Registering a business with Companies House comes with real advantages. It gives companies limited liability, makes it easier to access credit, provides more options for raising investment, and boosts credibility with customers and partners. All of this is supported by fees that remain low compared to international standards.

The income from these fees helps fund the incorporation of companies and the publication of company information that supports billions of pounds in economic activity across the UK. Thanks to new powers under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency (ECCT) Act, Companies House can now challenge and remove false or misleading information from the register. This helps create a safer, more trustworthy environment for consumers and legitimate businesses.

This Income also supports the work of The Insolvency Service, which investigates and enforces company law. Its powers include shutting down companies, disqualifying directors, and prosecuting those involved in fraud or other financial wrongdoing.

Looking ahead, Companies House is investing in better, more modern services and a stronger enforcement approach. This includes hiring more staff, using smarter tools, and acting faster against fraudulent companies. From 18 November 2025, compulsory identity verification was also introduced to ensure that people setting up or running companies are who they say they are.

Together, this work is helping to create a more transparent and trusted business environment. By tackling economic crime and protecting the integrity of the UK’s corporate system, Companies House is giving legitimate businesses the confidence they need to start, grow, and succeed in the UK.

Their fees are reviewed every year to make sure they’re set at the right level and reflect the cost of delivering their services.

From 1 February 2026 some of their fees will be changing, including:

  • incorporation digital filing fee will change to £100
  • confirmation statement digital filing fee will change to £50
  • voluntary strike off digital filing fee will change to £13
